Dubai is all about its Glam and Glitz, modern architectural marvels, crazy nightlife, stunning beaches, and opulent lifestyle but it has quickly become a hub of adventure sports attracting thrill-seekers from all across the globe. A combination of geographical landscape and the modern infrastructure of the futuristic city of UAE attracts all sorts of tourists ranging from the ones seeking cultural and luxury experiences to the ones seeking adrenaline-rushing adventure tourism. And the city provides the latter with hair-raising activities from skydiving, dune bashing to swimming with sharks. Listed below are some of the adventure sports available in Dubai.
Desert Sports

If you’re ever in Dubai, do not miss out on Desert safari and dune bashing! They are undoubtedly two of the most popular adventure sports in Dubai and the experience of going up and down a picturesque slope of a sand dune is unique to the region. If you’re someone who enjoys a thrilling car ride, you can practically imagine the tingly weightless feeling of crashing down a sand slope at increasing speeds in a classic 4×4 SUV or a Hummer H2.

To have a fun-filled day of adventure, you reach the campsite by noon, go for the safari and return back to your Bedouin camp by evening. Here, you can enjoy watching the sunset into a backdrop of giant sand dunes, while enjoying an amazing spread of dates, Arabian coffee, and barbeque dinner. It’s best to avoid the desert heat during summertime, hence the ideal months to visit would be between October and April. We recommended you avoid a heavy meal before the safari and carry your medication if you’re prone to motion sickness.

Water Sports

While Dubai is well known for its futuristic infrastructure and grand malls, its quickly grabbing the attention of all adventure junkies. In a typical “Only in Dubai” fashion, The Dubai Mall’s aquarium offers an experience of scuba diving with various species of sharks and stingrays. It requires prior booking and only 3 dives are allowed per day.

And if diving into an aquarium isn’t adventurous for you, explore the surreal beauty of the underwater world at the grand Jumeirah Beach. Dive underwater for as deep as 12 meters to explore a whole new world for a maximum of 2 hours. If diving is a little too intense for your nerves, you can opt for snorkeling and spot plentiful colorful fish and spiky marine life along the shorelines of Dubai. Popular snorkeling locations include the Musandam Peninsula, Dibba rock, Snoopy rock, etc.

Another one of the top attractions of Dubai is the Seabreacher ride, it’s a shark-shaped engineering marvel of a watercraft. It’s designed to look like a shark and swim just as fast, reaching top speeds of 30-40 Kmph. This ride can not just swim on the surface of the water, but it can also dive up to 5-6 meter depths. These feats allow this toy to shoot up out of the water at a 90° angle at 80 Kmph.

Aerial sports

We can all agree that Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab are two of the most iconic buildings in Dubai, tons of people flock to see them, but have you ever wondered how they’ll look from 4000 meters in the air? Dubai’s skydiving experience offers an exquisite bird’s eye view of the city’s skyline. You’ll be free-falling for a minute after which the instructor opens the parachute and for the next 5 minutes it’ll be a smooth glide. You can either choose to land close to Palm Jumeirah or over the famous sand dunes of the Dubai desert.

But if jumping out of a plane and free-falling onto the ground scares you, you can experience skydiving indoors. For this vertical flying experience, you’ll have to put on a special suit and safety gear, after which you’ll be escorted into a large tube-like enclosed space. This cylinder has a large fan that generates the vertical draft and allows you to fly as high as 3 meters into the air. This activity requires no prior training.
